Dig Deeper:

God is urging us toward a life that matters, one that will have eternal impact. He provides counsel in the odd-numbered verses and incentives in the even numbers. His counsel isn’t mere principles but a call to Himself. “Trust in the Lord” (Vs 5), “Fear the Lord” (Vs 7), “Honor the Lord” (Vs 9).

Can we trust in God? Hasn’t He shown us He’s trustworthy?

He is so good, and even with His discipline, He is just trying to protect us! Sin will always have consequences; it will always be destructive to us! That's why it's sin! He wants to shield us from ourselves. Trust Him today. True life is found in Him!

His incentives aren’t bribes or worldly, but they are the life and peace that result from being obedient. Even the pain of discipline (vs 11) brings us closer to Him, which always results in more peace and joy.

I want to be clear; what this is NOT saying is that if you follow God, you will never suffer. But what it is saying is that hardship can come even to those who follow godly wisdom. Among the advantages of godly wisdom are a clear conscience (peace in our minds) and confidence that God will stand beside a believer, no matter what (Proverbs 3:13–26). This is something that will give us the strength to get through any hardship.

“Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.“ ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

In humility, recognize that God is so much bigger and all-knowing than you could ever be. Acknowledge how much you need Him today. Understand that, just like you would never leave a toddler in a house alone, being without God is like that. It’s destructive, it's not safe. A toddler needs someone protecting them, guiding them, and taking care of them. We do too. Recognize your need and trust God.
